27/2 - Back to Miri

Today we have some final sessions in the Holiday Inn in Kuching, the city of cats. We do two nice exercises; one is to build a bridge out of straws and paper, and the other is to build a helicopter, after looking at an example model. Nice exercises, but they all revolve around the same ideas.

After lunch we have a couple of hours off to explore Kuching. We visit some of the souvenir shops along the waterfront, and I get a creepy headhunter T-shirt. It glows in the dark and it’s positively gross, but hey, sometimes you need to wear stuff like that.

We went to Kuching by bouncy bus, but we leave it by Boeing 737, courtesy of Malaysian Airlines. Around 6 we’re back in the Grand Palace Hotel. With five or six other people we have an excellent cheap diner near the hotel at a place called Nine to Five, where they serve spectacular beef in chili sauce, and after that’s it’s to bed. Tomorrow is the first real day of the course…
