8/3 - The Rabi Project, Phase A

This is what it’s all about, working on the project assignments. We start at 8pm to work on the Rabi project, and actual oil field in Gabon, Africa which was developed about 20 years ago. Loads of data is available on this field, and the situation is rather simple, which makes it excellent course material. We will go through four phases, each resulting in a report and in some cases a presentation.

For Phase A the pressure is on. Usually, work is spread over two days, but since we have managed to convince Ru to allow us to have Friday off to go to Mulu National Park, we have to do all the work on Friday. There’s seven of us in the group, but it’s a lot of work. We start at 8am, and we work through the day and evening until about 11:30pm, only stopping for a quick lunch and dinner. However, the report is done, and we can go to Mulu tomorrow. To celebrate we have a couple of beer in the hotel bar, annoying the barkeepers who want to close the place. We finish the night on Ale’s room by learning him how to play ‘toepen’. I win, Ale loses and the deal is that he has to give me a present now. I shiver at the thought of what this crazy Italian will think up…
